Pahor: It would be tragic for Skopje if only Albania gets the green light for negotiations

Slovenian President Borut Pahor stressed today that one of the tasks of the Slovenian presidency of the EU will be to unblock the start of negotiations with Northern Macedonia. According to him, this is a moral issue, informs Zhurnal.

“I think we need to find a way for Bulgaria to give the green light to Macedonia. This is a moral issue for Europe, not just a political one,” Pahor told Slovenia’s CTA news agency before taking over the EU presidency on July 1st.

“I am aware that it will not be easy, besides, it seems that Albania is more likely to get the green light,” Pahor said, but added that from Skopje’s point of view, this would be tragic.

He added that progress in EU enlargement towards the Western Balkans is important for the stability of the region and that the situation seriously shows the recent decree of US President Joe Biden to freeze wealth for anyone who would contribute to the destabilization of the region.
