Taylor Swift has confirmed the fan theory about her mysterious co-writer William Bowery.
Ahead of the release of her eighth studio album Folklore during the summer, the singer paid tribute to a mystery man named William Bowery, who had co-written two songs with her.
Fans of the pop superstar, 30, were convinced that the mystery man was actually Taylor’s boyfriend Joe Alwyn.
They theorised that ‘William’ may be a pseudonym for her handsome boyfriend Joe, 29, who she has been dating for almost three years now.
Taylor confirmed the theory on Tuesday when she performed a number of songs from her eighth studio album on Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions on Disney+.
During the stunning set, the You Belong With Me hitmaker revealed that she simply couldn’t pass up the opportunity to have Joe appear on her album, which she recorded in quarantine.
Taylor told her fans: “There’s been a lot of discussion about William Bowery and his identity because it’s not a real person. That would have gone on forever…”
“William Bowery is Joe, as we know, and Joe plays the piano beautifully and he’s always just playing and making things up and kind of creating things and Exile was crazy because Joe had written that entire piano part and it was, singing the Bon Iver part, ‘I can see you standing honey…’
“He was just singing it the way that the whole first verse is and so I was entranced and asked if we could keep writing that one.”
She continued: “It was pretty obvious that it should be a duet because he’s got such a low voice and it sounded really good sung down there.”
Taylor and Joe have kept their love life to themselves since they first met three years ago.
The stunning pop star has faced harsh backlash about her history with men in the past, with critics claiming that she couldn’t “hold down a man to save her life”.
Taylor has previously dated high profile celebrities such as Harry Styles, Calvin Harris and Joe Jonas.
